1. Acceptance of Official Rules

  • 1.1 Acceptance. Each Participant must agree to the Official Rules by:
    • Registering to participate in the Tournament.
    • Participating in any match that is part of the tournament.

2. Players

  • 2.1 Eligibility. To To be able to compete as a "Player," you must meet the following requirements:
    • Be in good standing with respect to any Blizzard Battle.Net accounts registered in your name. (2.1.1)
    • Be over the age of majority in your jurisdiction of resident. (2.1.2)
    • Be a legal resident of the United States or Canada. (2.1.3)
    • Be currently enrolled, or planning to be enrolled, during the tournament period as a full-time or part-time student in an Eligible Institution. (2.1.4)
    • Not be on academic probation at your currently enrolled University during any point of the competition. (2.1.5)
    • Agree to be bound by these Official Rules. (2.1.6)
  • 2.2 Verification of Eligibility. Every member of a Team who plays in the Tournament may be required to provide proof of enrollment; otherwise the Team is ineligible to win a prize in this Tournament.
  • 2.3 Player Names.
    • Players must use an acceptable name in Tespa competition. Players may use Battle Tags or handles during the Tournament. (2.4.1)
    • Player names may not include a sponsor name. (2.4.2)
    • Player names may not include a product name or description. (2.4.3)
    • Player names may not include any words that are purely commercial. (2.4.4)
    • Player names must comply with these Rules. (2.4.5)
    • Tespa has the right to request a Player name change for any reason, not restricted to the above. (2.4.6)

3. Teams

  • 3.1 Tournament Teams. A "Team" will consist of up to seven (7) Players and a Team Manager (who may not be one of the Players on a Team)
  • 3.2 Team Manager. Each Team may have a single individual designated as Team Manager. The Team Manager may not be one of the Team's Players.
  • 3.3 Team Management. The Team Manager will act as a Team's primary contact for all roster changes, rule disputes, and other communication between each Team and Tournament Administration.
    • Team Captain. In the case that a team does not have a team manager, the team Captain will act as a Team's primary contact for all roster changes, rule disputes, and other communication between each Team and Tournament Administration. (3.3.1)
  • 3.4 Designation. Team Managers must apply and be accepted before final Roster Locks. IN the event of a Team Manager Change, Tournament Administration must be informed by the Team.
  • 3.5 Roster Requirements.
    • Players. Each Team must designate five (5) starting Players. (3.5.1)
    • Substitutes. Each Team may designate up to two (2) substitute Players. These Players may replace Players during the Season. Teams may utilize any available substitutes who is present on their Roster. Substitutes may change teams between Weeks. (3.5.2)
    • Roster Locking. Throughout the tournament, rosters may have roster locking periods, where rosters will be unable to be altered prior to upcoming matches. (3.5.3)

4. Matches and Standings

  • 4.1 Match Structure. Each match in the preseason will be a best of three, with the first team to two wins winning the match. If neither team wins two maps, the team with the most wins will win the match.
    • Ties. In the case of a tie, a tournament admin will designate a tiebreaker map. (4.1.1)
  • 4.2 Tournament Period. The Tournament will take place from September 17th, 2018 to November 11th, 2018.
    • Preseason. The Tournament shall function as a preseason to the Tespa Collegiate Series: Heroes of the Storm. Teams can choose to opt-in to two weekly matches with the default time taking place on Sunday. Each match will be assigned on the “My Matches” tab on the Tespa Compete website. The results of the matches should be reported to the Compete “My Matches tab”. (4.2.1) (4.2.1)
  • 4.3 Tournament Schedule. For a full schedule of matches, please go to the schedule tab here
    • It is the full responsibility of the Team Manager and captain to notify team members of changes or delays in tournaments. (4.3.1)
  • 4.4 Rescheduling. Teams may reschedule matches from the time that they are assigned through Compete and public on the "My Matches" tab through the default match time. Teams may only reschedule matches with their opponent's permission in writing.

5. Match Details

  • No-Show Timer.Teams have up to 20 minutes after their match time to be in-lobby and ready to play. If your opponent has not shown up within this time frame, you may mark them as a no-show.
  • 5.1 Map Rotation. Team 1, as listed on compete.tespa.org, should choose to have map pick or first hero pick with Team 2 receiving the option not chosen.
    • Tournament Map Pool. All maps permitted in Heroes Global Championship play could be selected in the tournament. (5.1.1)

  • 5.2 Match Settings. All games should be played on the Tournament Realm with the “Tournament Draft” Lobby Mode selected. All games should be played with “Normal” game privacy. The team given first pick should be selected in the lobby. The map should be set to the map chosen by the team with map pick.
    • Lobby Creation. Participating Teams are responsible for inviting the opposing team and creating match lobbies and matches prior to their match start time. (5.2.1)
      • Team 1 will choose first map pick or first hero pick
      • Whichever team has map pick will ban a map from the map pool
      • The other team will then ban another map from the live map pool
      • The team with map pick will pick the first map that is played with the other team having first hero pick
  • 5.3 Pause Time. A team may request a pause only in the presence of a technical issue. Pause requests will be communicated in match chat during an ongoing match. The details of why a pause is requested must be communicated to the opposing team.
    • If you are the Team who controls the lobby, you must still request the pause and receive confirmation from the opposing team before initiating the pause. (5.3.1)
      • Teams must wait until the conclusion of any ongoing team fight before pausing.
      • Players are responsible for the integrity of their own internet connection. However, if a Player disconnects, his or her Team can either decide to request a pause and have the player reconnect or wait until that 'round' is finished to rejoin the match.
      • The default pause configuration is /pause.
    • Teams may pause a total of 3 times per game. The amount of pause time must not exceed 10 minutes per game per team. (5.3)
      • The team that does not request the pause must confirm the end time of the pause via the in-game 'match chat' once a pause is initiated.
      • If a team has no pauses left and their pause timer runs out, the Team that requested the pause will be forced to continue playing “Man-Down”
    • 5.4 Playing "Man-Down". Maps may continue with a Team playing "Man-Down" (where a player fails to reconnect or solve technical issues and cannot participate in the remainder of the map). Maps may not begin with a team playing "Man-Down". If a Team is unable to field the required number of players by the final match start time, that team will be required to forfeit.

6. Match Rules

  • 6.2 Results. Team Captains and Managers will be responsible for confirming and recording all map and match results on the Compete website.
  • 6.3 Technical Issues. Teams are responsible for any of their own technical issues, including hardware, software, or internet issues.
  • 6.4 Streaming. Players will be allowed to stream their matches during the Tournament from their player perspective. Players and other persons may not join a match as a spectator without explicit written consent from both teams. In the event of a dispute, it is the Player or spectator's responsibility to document all consent given by both Teams in the streamed match. Players and spectators must stream with at least a 3-minute delay. Tournament Admins may revoke the right to stream Tournament matches at any time.

7. Communication

  • 7.2 Announcements. Large announcements, general information, ruleset, and bracket can be found here and the official Tespa Compete Discord server. These websites will serve as an information hub for teams.
  • 7.3 Email. Players may email compete@tespa.org for any issues that they experience, or to provide feedback as necessary. This method will often receive slower responses than reaching out to administrators via the Compete Discord channel.

8. Conduct

  • 8.1 Sportsmanship and Professionalism. All Participants are required to act in a respectful sportsmanlike manner at all times and abide by the player Code of Conduct, as posted on the Compete website and in the Official Rules.

9. Tournament Prizing

  • 9.2 Blizzard Battle.Net Prizing. The Five (5) eligible participants who are designated “players” of the top Thirty-Two (32) teams will be eligible for Blizzard Battle.net Prizing of the amounts defined below.
